Craig Henson

I have been an artist all my life. I have always drawn, coloured and illustrated. I won the school art prize in my last year of primary school and came first in Practical Art in 5th form at secondary school. After secondary school, I did a degree in Science at Otago University but never stopped creating. In my mid-twenties, I studied Art History at Canterbury University before moving to a Teaching Diploma at Christchurch College of Education (now merged with the University).

I started my current painting journey 15 years ago using acrylic testpot house paints and creating stylised cartoon murals of safari and undersea scenes in my sons’ bedrooms over two successive houses. I created other wall paintings for members of my family in their houses. When we moved again, I changed to canvas and illustrated scenes for my children, family, and friends. From there I moved towards a more realistic style and painting landscapes from photos. As my collection of paintings swelled, visitors started to ask if they were for sale and well, here we are.
